How everything began…

Perhaps there is no in Ukraine a person of middle or elder age who never in his life heard about "Sportloto", does not played sports lotteries of USSR sunk into oblivion. Up to now memory of a lot of people keeps reminiscences about childish passion, with that "soviet people" at first time enjoyed the fruits of mysterious lottery game. This happened on the 20 October of 1970, when for the first time in the USSR turned the drawing drum and eight-year Masha Obuhova took out the first lucky winning ball with number 30. Just that day in Moscow, In Central Journalist House took place the first drawing of the first sports-numerical lottery "Sportloto 6 from 49" in the country's history. From that time, already during 35 years the lottery game did not cease for a moment, at least in our country, in Ukraine. The day of the 20th October of 1970 is the birthday of sports lotteries and just from that date the story of "Sportloto", "Molodsportloto", "MSL" began.

It may strike today's players as improbable, but 35 years ago the balls with winning figures of lottery were token out from a drum by hands, and children did it, as a rule. Only by the third anniversary of "Sportloto" instead of a drum a special device was used - a lottotron, where the winning balls got mixed up mechanically and were taken out automatically. This allowed conducting drawings in the studio of the Central Television and broadcast its results throughout the country. Just from that moment two drawings were conducted: "Sportloto" and "Sportloto 2". From bad to worse, the 14 August of 1976 the first drawing of Saturday Sportloto took place - famous sports-numerical lottery "Sportloto 5 from 36", which was conducted uninterruptedly during… a quarter of a century. The same year of 1976, the 20 of October, by the six anniversary of "Sportloto" a new instantaneous lottery "Sprint" was launched at first time in the USSR that succeeded and gave joy of win to great number of people. An outstanding milestone in the history of Union "Sportloto" was a launching of a lottery "Sportprognos" in the 1987. And at the beginning of the seventies very few of those playing lottery guessed that exactly the "Sportloto" destined to finance the Moscow Olympic Games of 1980, that conducting sports lotteries would allow creating in the country the whole industry of the health for all the people of USSR, including our country.

By the middle of the year 1972, 11 zone administrations of "Sportloto" operated in Ukraine, which conducted a sports-numerical lottery "6 from 49" in all its regions. Ukraine participated actively in the game and gave approximately the third part of the total amount of profit of the "Sportloto". Already in the 1974 the first sporting constructions appeared in our country, which were erected for the lottery money: three-spring board complex in Vorohta (Carpathian), route and shooting-ground for biathlon in the village Piatihatky, mountain-ski complex in the village Slavskoe.

It is impossible to list all the sporting objects, erected for the funds, received from conducting sporting lotteries. Here are only a few of them: Sport Palaces in Kharkov, Odessa and Zaporozhie, water-sport complex in Dnepropetrovsk, water-sport center in Sevastopol, Chess palace in Lvov, stadium "Yubileyniy" in Poltava. In Kiev for lottery money a Central Stadium was reconstructed, also track complex in Berezniaky, tennis-court in Zhuliany, skating rink "Ldinka". But the main is that a material and technical basis was created for developing the physical culture and sport in the country. Sports ground, skating rinks, swimming-pools appeared not only in big cities but in region centers, villages also.

Youth, sport, lottery

Soviet Union collapse stroke a blow to the "Sportloto". When our country assumed the independence, all Ukrainian zone administrations in February of 1992 united between themselves and created a state corporation "Molodsporloto". This name absorbed at once three notions: youth, sport and lottery, and sharply defined the heart of the task stated before the government: to hold lotteries throughout Ukraine for complementary financing sporting and youth programs. The corporation should hold its activity adding to its armory the best traditions of predecessor - Union "Sportloto".

We should confess that the history of our national lottery operator was not smooth, quite the contrary. The first years of formation of our power, "Molodsportloto", now "MSL", felt all the burdens of hyperinflation, all the tragedy of distress of the country and nation. In the 1991-1995 legislation imperfection lead that in the Ukrainian lottery market worked at the same time 92 operators. No one knows from where appeared the great number of pseudo-lotteries - fraudulent, extortioner, deceptive. Theirs organizers promised wonders to people, but in the upshot, gamblers did not receive their wins and the state - dues. These lotteries caused irreparable harm, discrediting the lottery as event. But their life was short, a lot of pseudo-lotteries went broke, fell like an house of cards, disappeared at split second, giving place to specialists and professionals - operator "MSL", which during decades conducted and conducts its lotteries honestly and frankly.

With time MSL has consolidated its position, meritoriously becoming the leading lottery company of the country with great experience of holding lotteries - sporting, numerical, television, instantaneous…, yearly growing funds assessments volumes both to the state budget, and for the sport development, and support of paraolimpical movement in the country. These assesments and continual sport assistance are extremely important and at present time, when the government, unfortunately, is unable for a while yet to finance the development of physical culture in corpore. That is why literally one can say that the lotteries MSL are the sports glory of our country, and also it is health. Yours and your children!

We want to give a hundreds of people due, who devoted their life to lottery affair. And also we want to try to evaluate paces of development and the scale of MSL's activity during its newest history - the last ten years and a little more. This term is only on the face of it seems short; you know how many lotteries were launched during that time and put a lot of work into its proper conducting. You have to judge this, though. And we will begin our excursus with "Youth's fortune" - the first Ukrainian instantaneous lottery comes into the marketing in the 1993. Also this year one more instant lottery appeared - "Olimp", called, the same as "Fortune" to support the Olympic movement in the country and finance the preparation for competitions of national combined teams.

The MSL company held out against the cruelest period of hyperinflation, broken out in Ukraine, caned to prove to all the people, that it works on foundations of honesty and openness both relative to the players, and the state. Acceptance for European Assosiation of State Lotteries (AELLE) as full member was a recognition of successful MSL activity. In the 1994, ad exemplum of a lot European countries MSL passed on so called address lotteries. The first of them became a lottery "Record", which funds were destined to support children's sporting schools of Ukraine.

Since 1995 to 1997 a lottery "Zolotoe koleso" was spent by MSL. Its final draws were broadcast on TV and turned to bright, colorful, remembered show. The means received from its carrying out were sent on preparation of sportsmen-participants of Olympic Games 1996 in Atlanta. Money which have not been played in the studio, were transferred to support of sports schools and sport boarding schools all around Ukraine.

In 1995 in a distribution network of lotteries MSL have appeared new lottery-tickets мгновенки - "Blyskavka", and one year later - безтиражной lottery "Olimp-Super". Both have obligatory to finance an addition preparation of combined teams of Ukraine to summer and winter Olympic Games, to promote the development of physical training and sports in the country.

On May, 12th, 1996 has earned the first Ukrainian лототрон, made to order of MSL. Since this moment numerical lotteries have received the proud name - lotteries "Ukrainian Sportloto", and the draws were broadcasted on the channel UT-1 routinely.

In April, 1997 have been implemented the Conditions of carrying out the state numerical lottery " Ukrainian Sportloto 6 iz 40 ", and in the following, 1998 this lottery has presented the largest "Jack-pot" ever played in Ukraine - 177376 grivnas. In the autumn of 1997 МSL has founded the special commission for program formation of drawings for our "Ukrainian Sportprognoz". It was headed by legendary Mikhail Koman - the master of sports and the honored trainer of Ukraine who heads it until now.

Right at the beginning of 1998 the lottery "Dvadtsat' odno" has filled up the portfolio of МSL instant lotteries.
